If you’re looking for an Old World feel and original details, this Lakewood home has an iconic Spanish eclectic design attributed to architect Clifford D. Hutsell, whose personal home, also on Lakewood Boulevard, is a Dallas landmark. The home was expanded and now has an attached guest quarters and a pool. Overall, the home has four bedrooms and four bathrooms in 3,580 square feet of space.
The 1928 build was restored by previous owners to reflect original features and bring back the historic look of it, listing agent Gianna Cerullo of Compass said.
“They put everything back to what it was,” Cerullo said. “All that stuff is not old; it just looks like it’s old.”
Tiles in the bathrooms were painted to mimic colors and styles that would’ve been original to the home. In the breakfast room, painted cabinets reflect an Old World style and complement the mosaic tile floor. Stained glass windows were re-created to mimic ones that would have been part of the original design.
One feature is sure to catch the eye of those who love historic homes: the original Rookwood fireplace was preserved. The fireplace is in a light-filled living room that sits just off of the home’s foyer. Next to the living room is a smaller additional space that Cerullo said was likely a porch at one point and later enclosed. On the opposite side of the foyer there is another space that could be a dining room. It has access to the front patio through French doors.
The tiles along the backsplash in the kitchen were chosen to reflect the original design. On one side of the room, there’s an opening between the kitchen and the family room.
All of the bedrooms are on the second level of the home. The primary suite has a covered balcony on one side. The fourth bedroom in the home was added on and has a separate entrance, which makes it easy for the room to function as a guest suite.
Outside, the home has a pool decorated with colorful tiles. There’s a covered outdoor living space with a fireplace and a grill area. The home also has a two-car attached garage.
The home at 7019 Lakewood Blvd. is on the market for $1,825,000. It is currently under contract.
